Maple Grove Girls Golf Leads State AAA Tournament After One Day
The top-ranked Maple Grove girls golf team leads the 36-hole state class AAA tournament following the completion of Tuesday’s first round.
The Crimson shot 315 as a team, five strokes better than second-place Wayzata.
Maple Grove junior Amelia Morton shot the team’s low score of the day with a two-over par round of 74.
The Crimson’s Annika Hendrickson shot a 79 while McKenna Hogan and Payton Anderson each recorded rounds of 81.
Wayzata’s Saachi Deshmukh was the Trojans’ best golfer in the first round with a score of 75.
The Trojans’ Jenna Britz shot a 78 while Lauren Chambs was third for Wayzata on Day 1 with an 80.
Defending state individual champion Kathryn VanArragon of Blaine fired a six-under par score of 66 to lead, two shots ahead of Reese McCauley of Simley.
The second and final round starts Tuesday morning at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids. Boys teams are still on the course at publishing time for this article. For complete results click here.
