Maple Grove Boys Basketball Beats Champlin Park for Section 5AAAA Title
The Maple Grove boys basketball team is headed to the state tournament after a 90-81 win over Champlin Park in the Section 5AAAA championship game.
The teams split two regular season meetings. Both teams came out firing in the section final, with Maple Grove closing the first half strong to take a 44-42 lead at halftime.
After the Crimson stretched their lead to ten, Champlin Park battled back to take a couple of brief leads before Maple Grove finished by pulling away with late free throws.
Keegan Harney had 29 points and Baboucarr Ann 24 to lead Maple Grove.
Tyler Wagner had 28 for Champlin Park.
The Rebels finish with a 23-5 record.
Maple Grove advances to the class AAAA tournament with a 21-8 mark.
They will find out their seeding and quarterfinal opponent Saturday.
