Local Gophers Set for NCAA Softball
Two local Gophers are set for the NCAA softball tournament. Outfielder Maddie Houlihan is a Plymouth native and Benilde-St. Margaret’s graduate.
Pitcher Sydney Smith, a Maple Grove grad, is in her first year at Minnesota after transferring from LSU.
Houlihan was 7-for-9 with five runs batted in during the Big Ten tournament.
She was named Most Outstanding Player for the tournament.
Smith pitched in relief in the semifinal and championship games.
The Gophers face Texas in the Seattle Regional Friday night on ESPN.
