Champlin Park Football Eliminated from Playoffs by Eden Prairie
The Champlin Park football team saw a very good season come to an end as the Rebels lost their second-round Class 6A football playoff game 21-16 to Eden Prairie.
The Rebels trailed 7-3 at halftime, scoring a Trace Fitzgerald 24-yard field goal after the Eagles turned away the Rebels offense on a first and goal series from the one-yard line.
Leo Kromah scored on a 34-yard fumble recovery touchdown in the third quarter to give the Rebels their only lead at 10-7.
But the Eagles got a defensive touchdown of their own when Gavin Walden recovered a fumble in the endzone. Walden then scored an offensive touchdown on a seven-yard score to put Eden Prairie ahead 21-10 with under three minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
The Rebels scored with under two minutes to play on a Miles Felton to Eric Lukes 23-yard touchdown pass but failed to recover the ensuing onsides kick to fall short, 21-16.
Champlin Park finishes the season with a record of 8-2.
Eden Prairie (8-2) now faces Edina in the 6A state quarterfinals Friday at Osseo High School.
