U.S. Ag Secretary Tours Second Harvest Heartland in Brooklyn Park
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-3rd District) toured Second Harvest Heartland in Brooklyn Park to discuss how people can work together to build a more resilient food system.
“This is one of the most prosperous nations in the world. The fact we have to distribute one million meals that doesn’t even meet the need catches my attention,” said Phillips.
Secretary Vilsack said he’s seen several food bank facilities, but said he’d never seen anything quite like the facility in Brooklyn Park.
“This is a place where miracles occur everyday and you can see it right here. You have volunteers who are producing Minnesota products to Minnesota families so they have better nutrition and to fill that hunger gap,” said Vilsack.
