Sōke in Brooklyn Park offers Korean BBQ, Hotpot Under One Roof
In most restaurants, the kitchen staff cooks the food out of the view of the customer, but Brooklyn Park’s newest restaurant, Sōke, isn’t like most restaurants.
In fact, owner Linh Huynh says Sōke is one of a kind.
“This is the first restaurant in Minnesota [where] we offer hotpot and barbecue together,” Huynh said.
To be clear, there are other restaurants in Minnesota where you can get Korean barbecue and others where you can get hotpot, but Huynh says this is the only place that offers both.
“Well it’s really exciting because I would like to bring something new to the customer here,” she said.
For those unfamiliar with the concept of Korean barbecue and hotpot, allow us to explain.
What is Korean BBQ and Hotpot?
Customers are seated at a table where there’s a hot grill in the center. If you opt for Korean barbecue, the wait staff will bring out marinated meat that you cook yourself on that very grill.
If you order hotpot, they offer six different types of broth that you can use as a soup base. The broth is warmed in front of you and you decide what sort of protein, vegetables or noodles you want to put in. Let it cook for a few minutes then scoop and serve.
If you need help cooking the food to its appropriate temperature, the waitstaff has you covered.
“That’s why I like to train all my servers,” Huynh said. “We’re training how to help and guide the customer, because this is a new concept for the people in Minnesota.”
If you’re craving something sweet, you can get that here as well.
Mochinut is a dessert shop that opened under the same roof as Sōke back in May, much to the delight of doughnut lovers everywhere.
“Yeah, customers like it, and they keep coming back,” Huynh said.
There are a few things at Sōke that will likely keep customers coming back — from the robot that guides people to their tables to the overall dining experience, it’s all part of Huynh’s plan to prove that you don’t need to go to Minneapolis or St. Paul to enjoy delicious Asian food.
“Hopefully they come here and enjoy with us,” Huynh said.
An official grand opening celebration for Sōke is planned for Wednesday, July 26. The restaurant is located at 8586 Edinburgh Centre Drive in Brooklyn Park.
