Robbinsdale School Board Member Not Seeking Re-Election
Robbinsdale Area School Board member John Vento said he told his family that he planned to serve only three terms following his last re-election.
He kept to that promise.
In his announcement not seeking re-election, Vento said “three terms has been long enough.” Each term is four years.
Vento said the decision had “nothing to do with the current state of the board,” which sought a third-party mediator to work out conflicts among members.
Board members also face a challenge of deciding how to trim $17 million from the budget. That outcome will have to be decided before Vento’s term ends in December.
“I am fully committed to fulfilling my responsibilities up until my final day serving this community just as I was on the first day of serving,” said Vento.
Two other board members, Helen Bassett and Greta Evans-Becker, also have expiring terms. Each has not yet indicated whether they will run for re-election.
