Rep. Robbins Suspends Campaign for Governor
Republican state Rep. Kristin Robbins of Maple Grove has announced she’s suspending her campaign for governor, according to a statement released by her office Friday.
The announcement comes nearly nine months after her decision to run for governor began.
Robbins had campaigned with a focus on fraud, but ultimately decided to bow out after trailing in a recent GOP straw poll.
“Our state government and political system are broken, and after fighting for Minnesotans from the inside for the past eight years, I have determined that the best way for me to fight for the future of our state is from the outside,” said Robbins in a statement to CCX News.
In her statement, Robbins spoke of “Minnesota’s slide into socialism.”
“When I first began saying this, people laughed a little nervously – but this is not hyperbole. Many of the Democrats who are making decisions in St. Paul are part of a growing Democrat Socialists of America (DSA) party that is gaining traction from New York City to California.”
Robbins will continue to serve Minnesota House District 37A until her term ends in January. She chairs the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee.
“I will be engaged in this fight for Minnesota as a State Representative and, come 2027, as a private citizen,” said Robbins.
Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth won a GOP straw poll at precinct caucuses held in February. Kendall Qualls, who also ran for governor in 2022, finished in second.
The Republican state endorsing convention will be held in late May. Demuth has stated she will abide by that endorsement, but other GOP candidates have said they will continue to an August primary no matter the outcome.
