New Hope Weather Watcher Earns Prestigious Award
A longtime New Hope weather watcher has received a prestigious award.
Steve Reckers has spent the last 58 years going into his back yard to record weather data for the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.
His devotion earned him a John Campanius Holm Award, which is given to honor weather observers for outstanding accomplishments in the field of meteorological observations.
“I feel very happy, proud that I was awarded the award because I’ve been doing it a lot of years,” said Reckers. “And the fact that they would give me that award for what I’ve done, I love doing it. It’s not an effort. So yeah, I felt good about it.”
The National Weather Service gives out 25 Holm awards to weather watchers every year. Reckers says there are roughly 10,000 weather watchers across the United States.
