New Hope Store Prepares for Free Comic Book Day
Parents who want to help their kids develop a love of reading will have an opportunity to do so this weekend, and it won’t cost them a cent. This Saturday is the annual celebration known as Free Comic Book Day.
“It’s the biggest day of the year, for comic book stores anyway,” said Mike Wadlund, owner of Rockhopper Comics and Games in New Hope.
Rockhopper Comics and Games is one of thousands of comic book stores around the world participating in the event.
The store will have more than a hundred titles available for people to take at no cost.
Staff members say it’s a great way to introduce kids — and their parents — to new characters and story lines.
“Free Comic Book Day does have a lot of kid-friendly books. Young, reader-friendly books,” said Wadlund. “So it’s a great opportunity to come out and check those books out too to get kids to read again, something physical that they can put in their hand.”
The free comics are first-come, first-serve, so the advice is to get to the store early. Rockhopper is open Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.
