Filing Open for Candidates in Brooklyn Park’s East District Special Election

Candidate filing is now open to fill a Brooklyn Park City Council seat vacancy serving the East District. Filing opened on Tuesday, Nov. 30 and runs through Dec. 14.

The seat was vacated when Lisa Jacobson won the special election for mayor. Since more than a year remained on Jacobson’s term as council member, the city must hold a special election to fill the vacancy.

The city council voted to amend the city charter to waive the requirement to hold a primary election if more than two candidates file.

The special election is scheduled for Feb. 8. The winner would complete the rest of Jacobson’s term, which runs through the end of 2024.
