Driver Rams Brooklyn Park Police Cars, Nearly Hits Officers
Brooklyn Park police officers had a close call early Thursday morning after a driver nearly ran them over.
Police were initially called out to the 6300 block of Boone Avenue North on a report of a driver slumped over in a vehicle. Officers arrived and located the driver, who police believe may have been impaired. The driver awoke and refused to obey police commands, said Brooklyn Park police said. That’s when the driver put the vehicle in drive and started ramming squad cars.
During the incident, the driver’s vehicle headed toward police officers who were outside their squads. The officers jumped out of the way to avoid getting hit, said Brooklyn Park Deputy Chief Mark Bruley. Police released video of the incident.
The driver crashed a short distance away. The man then got out and ran away. A search to find him with a police K9 was unsuccessful, police said.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the Brooklyn Park Police Department at 763-493-8222.
