Crystal Cove Aquatic Center Set To Open with New Amenities in Mid-June
After a summer closed for renovations, the Crystal Cove Aquatic Center is preparing to open its pool up to the public in the second week of June.
Many of its amenities will be brand new for families to enjoy.
A few years back, city leaders discovered the pool had a leak. They ended up taking it as an opportunity to make improvements to the existing pool with community feedback.
“As we were developing plans for the pool, we talked to a lot of people and tried to incorporate what the community wanted to see here. So, we did try to address most of those requests,” said John Elholm, Crystal’s recreation director.
Parts of the pool were made more shallow. The department also added new slides, a rope swing, a climbing wall and a jumping platform.
Elholm said city, state and county funds helped make these improvements possible.
The facility still has some work to do. The front entrance is still being constructed and the pool is being finished. It will be filled and water will be prepared for use starting this week.
Though the pool is set to open in mid-June, Crystal Cove will hold its reopening celebration on Wednesday, June 25. It will offer free swimming, a ceremony and ribbon cutting and an open house with activities. Free swim goes from 4-8 p.m. and the ceremony will be held at 5 p.m.
The pool is still looking for lifeguards. Elholm said Crystal offers a low-cost ($20) lifeguard training class for those interested. More information about trainings and the job application are available on Crystal’s website.
