Brooklyn Park Memorial Day Weekend Crime: 4 Shots-Fired Cases, Attempted Ammo Theft
Brooklyn Park police had a busy Memorial Day holiday weekend responding to a litany of crime calls.
From Friday night through Monday, Brooklyn Park officers responded to four shots-fired cases, one robbery, one response to locate carjacking suspects, one stabbing and one attempted ammunition theft.
One of the incidents occurred Monday at around 3:50 p.m. when officers were called to the Fleet Farm, located at 8400 Lakeland Ave. N., where two people attempted to steal a “large amount of gun parts and ammunition,” police said.
“The suspects were using a knife to open the packaging,” Brooklyn Park police said in a crime alert.
The incident resulted in a large law enforcement presence. Police were able to arrest two suspects trying to leave the store.
Jail records show one man and one woman, both 30, in custody for possession of burglary theft tools. Charges in the case are pending.

Stabbing Reported at Walmart
On Sunday at the Brooklyn Park Walmart, located at 8000 Lakeland Ave. N., an officer working contract overtime at the store responded to a fight at around 10:20 p.m.
The officer located two males, one of whom had a knife. During the response, the officer also noticed one of them had an apparent stab wound to the abdomen.
Police arrested the suspect, while the stabbing victim was taken to the hospital, a press release stated.
Both the suspect and victim knew each other, police said.
Multiple Shots-Fired Cases
Brooklyn Park officers were also kept busy responding to multiple shots-fired incidents. From late Friday through Monday night, police responded to at least four such cases.
The most recent case occurred Monday at approximately 11:45 p.m. near Brooklyn Boulevard and Regent Avenue North. Officers had heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of a business in that area, police said.
When officers arrived, they noticed one person running from the scene. Police said they used a K9 track, drone search and State Patrol helicopter, but were unable to locate the individual.
No injuries were reported.
On Sunday evening, police responded to two cases within hours of each other.
Police responded at around 7:45 p.m. to Oak Grove Park, 10251 Zane Ave. N., for a shots-fired call. Bullet casings were recovered in the parking lot, police said.
Hours later, officers responded shortly before 11:15 p.m. to the 6200 block of 65th Ave. N. on a report of shots fired. A bullet casing was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex. No injuries were reported in either case Sunday.
A fourth case was reported late Friday night. Officers responded to a strip mall in the 5700 block of Brookdale Drive for a shots-fired call at 10:20 p.m. Upon arrival, police said they located two businesses damaged by gunfire. An alert released by Brooklyn Park police indicated the gunfire came from a vehicle traveling in the area.
Bullet casings were recovered in the street on Friday night, police said. No injuries were reported in that case.
Robbery Report
Brooklyn Park police also continue to investigate a robbery involving a weapon that occurred Saturday shortly after 10:45 p.m. in the 8400 block of Adair Ave. N.
“Information gathered on scene indicated that the victim and her neighbor had been involved in a dispute over property,” police said in a news alert.
Police said someone at the neighbor’s home confronted the victim with a handgun and stole the woman’s phone.
Officers were unable to arrest the suspect that night. The case remains under investigation.
Search for Carjacking Suspects
Early Saturday morning, Brooklyn Park police said they tried to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. It turns out the vehicle had been stolen after an armed carjacking in Minneapolis, police said.
Brooklyn Park officers tried to stop the vehicle along Edinbrook Terrace at about 4:50 a.m. The vehicle left the road in the 8600 block of Zane Ave. N.
According to police, four people inside the vehicle ran into a nearby wooded area. A search that involved multiple agencies, two K9 units and a drone was not successful, police said.
Police said a firearm believed to have been used in the carjacking was recovered from the vehicle.
As of Tuesday morning, the investigation into that case continued.
