Anoka-Hennepin Schools to Recommend Masks, Not Require Them
COVID-19 cases are on the rise again. For students returning to school this fall, it will be up to districts to decide what to do about masks.
On Wednesday, the Minnesota Health and Education departments recommended everyone wear masks inside schools, regardless of vaccination status.
The Anoka-Hennepin School District released its guidelines shortly after the announcement.
Anoka-Hennepin will follow the direction of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) regarding wearing of masks and other health and safety matters as follows:
- Consistent with MDH and MDE recommendations, cloth face coverings or masks are recommended but not required for all persons including students and staff indoors during the school day until further notice.
- Cloth face coverings or masks are required on student transportation following federal guidelines. This is a federal requirement and not a rule under the authority of the school district.
- Face coverings/masks are not recommended when outdoors, with exceptions for larger group settings.
- Mask wearing during activities are under the direction of Minnesota State High School League rules (MSHSL). Details will be shared directly from coaches and advisors and the MSHSL.
You can read more guidelines about returning to school on the district’s website.
