18-year-old Man Killed in Brooklyn Park Fireworks Mishap
Early Morning Fireworks Incident Kills Man in Brooklyn Park
The Fourth of July holiday ended in tragedy after a young man was killed in Brooklyn Park due to a fireworks mishap.
According to Brooklyn Park police, officers, firefighters and North Memorial paramedics got a report at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday of a firework that exploded in someone’s face. Police say the incident happened at a park in the 9800 block of Fallgold Parkway North. Brooklyn Park police also tell CCX News that the firework was illegal.
When officers first arrived they found an 18-year-old man with severe injuries to his hands and face, and a friend performing CPR on the man. Responding emergency crews also attempted life-saving measures. The victim was taken to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale where he was pronounced dead.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
According to an Associated Press report, the incident was the first reported death from fireworks this year in Minnesota.
In 2021, 17 Minnesotans were injured by fireworks, down from 78 injuries in 2020, the AP report said.
