The Birdhouse Owners Ready for a Big Summer in Downtown Robbinsdale
When Joshua Dykuis and his wife, Nell Currey Dykuis, created The Birdhouse restaurant in downtown Robbinsdale nearly seven years ago, they had no idea what their business–and really the entire Twin Cities metro–would endure in the coming months and years.
“Our mission, our goals, it’s opening during COVID, it’s always been a moving target, right? And we’ve been really good at adapting to what we know the community wants,” said Joshua when interviewed by Robbinsdale Mayor Brad Sutton on CCX Cities.
“Give a lot of grace to those around us who have opened restaurants–nothing about it has been easy, quite honestly, but we’re not giving up,” added Nell. “We’ve never given up, and if we haven’t given up now, you know, you’re still going to see us.”
The Birdhouse remains a community favorite for cocktails, lunch, brunch, and dinner, with patio seating in the summer months and jazz in the evenings coming up.
‘This is our community, and so we wanted it to be a place that everybody felt welcome, everybody felt safe,” said Nell.
“I almost feel like Robbinsdale chose us,” said Joshua.
