Maple Grove City Leaders Offer Lawn Maintenance Reminders
City of Maple Grove leaders remind residents of a few basic yard and lawn maintenance rules as the spring heats into the summer.
“Every city has different ordinances,” said Zoning Enforcement Officer Ben Blauert. “They vary from city to city and county to county, and it kind of just regulates what can go on in the city and how things are maintained, just kind of keeps things in order and in place.”
In Maple Grove, for instance, it is against city code to have grass or weeds higher than eight inches in your yard, said Blauert.

Maple Grove Zoning Enforcement Officer Ben Blauert said the springtime is when the city gets a lot of tips about unkempt yards.
“We will reach out to a property owner if they have any violations at their property, (and) give them a deadline for correction,” he said. “If they don’t correct it within a ten-day period, we go out and force-mow it.”
He also said the city looks for any trees, shrubs, bushes, that aren’t properly trimmed or maintained.
“If you keep things under control throughout the year, it’s easier to manage,” said Blauert. “Once it kind of takes a stranglehold, it’s more difficult to manage, they have a more difficult time managing their yard. If you just keep it in a controlled state, it’s just easier and more aesthetically pleasing, and it just looks better for the city.”
Residents can always report issues they observe, and do so anonymously, through the City of Maple Grove’s See-Click-Fix page.
“Springtime is our big time of year, people are out walking around, checking things out, noticing things that were maybe put away over winter and we get a lot of calls and reports in the spring and summer time for things such as yard maintenance,” said Blauert.
