Osseo Man Brings Trivia, Fun to Draw Crowds to Music and Movies in the Park
Osseo city leaders wanted to find a way to spice up the Tuesday evening Music and Movies in the Park. When Eddy Joaneddy suggested an emcee and some trivia, they asked him to do it.
“It was something to fill in the time between when people would arrive in the park and when the band started,” said Joaneddy, who warms up the crowd at Boerboom Park with trivia and other fun. He gives out prizes, including gift cards to local businesses.
“We want to stick with local businesses. It’s an advertising tool for them,” said Joaneddy. “We ask for a couple of $20 gift cards. If people haven’t visited a store, they’ll go down and spend the money.”
On a recent Tuesday evening, the Teddy Bear Band was setting up for its gig and Joaneddy worked the crowd with rubber ducks and handing out gift cards to a local ice cream shop.
“Osseo is like Bedford Falls if you’ve ever seen ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,'” he said. “That’s the way Osseo feels to us. It’s only three-quarters of a mile square. It’s not going to get any bigger. We’ve got a really unique situation here. There’s a lot of older folks, a lot of families, working folks. It’s just a real nice community. We’ve got something going on all the time.”
