New Planning Underway for the Blue Line LRT
The prospect of extending the Metro Blue Line light rail north from Minneapolis to Brooklyn Park has gotten more complicated. The previously planned route relied on constructing new track alongside the existing BNSF rail line running through the cities of Golden Valley, Robbinsdale, and Crystal. That’s no longer a possibility. Now the planning is starting over and the Met Council is looking at new options. County Road 81 is the new preferred path, but there are many questions that need to be answered–everything from, how do you make crossings and intersections safe? To, how do you make the construction process less of a disruption in the community? And, will it still be worth it in the end? To figure that out, the Met Council is looking for your opinion.
