Robbinsdale Mayor Brad Sutton spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about some recent city council decisions and upcoming events.

City council recently signed a proclamation in recognition of members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“This is just one of the things the city wants to embrace and it really aligns with our objectives to create an inclusive and safe community and just reminding members that all are welcome in Robbinsdale,” said Mayor Sutton.
Empower Inclusion City Cadets
The city will once again welcome in cadets from the Empower Inclusion program, which places special needs young adults with cities so they can work closely in several departments to learn the ropes of what it takes to be a city employee.
“My heart is just bursting with pride that we are doing this,” said Sutton. “If you see them around, be sure to say hi!”
Public Camping Ordinance
Robbinsdale City Council is also taking steps to lay down new ground rules when it comes to camping on public property.
The issue came up after someone set up a tent by the city’s water tower.
“Council had a thoughtful discussion over a work session and then we also had first reading of the ordinance here at this last council meeting and decided to have a second reading on July 15th and taking public input,” said Sutton. “I really encourage the public to know more and really dig into resources that are available to people like this. The police department really leads with compassion and offers a ton of resources through Hennepin County.”
Whiz Bang Days
Robbinsdale’s Whiz Bang Days is set for July 9-13. This year, the organizing committee has come up a bit short of raising enough money to put on the $5,000 fireworks display. You can find out more about the festival on the organizing committee’s website.
