Wayzata Wins Section 5AA Boys Swimming
The Wayzata boys swimming and diving team won the Section 5AA championship Saturday and advancing several athletes on to this week’s state meet.
The Trojans scored 606 team points, well ahead of runner-up Spring Lake Park with 384.
Maple Grove finished third with Armstrong fouth, Osseo sixth, Champlin Park seventh and Park Center eighth.
Matt Gendreau of Wayzata won the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events and anchored the Trojans’ winning 4 x 400 yard freestyle relay team.
Wayzata’s Nathan Carr won the 100 yard backstroke and 100 yard butterfly races and was also on the 4 x 400 relay team that won.
Armstrong’s Justin Rowles won the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events
Gerrit Riekels of Maple Grove won the 200 yard individual medley and Nick Haseman of Wayzata won diving.
