Wayzata Volleyball Wins 3rd Title in a Row
The Wayzata volleyball team won its third consecutive state championship Saturday with a three-set sweep of Lakeville North in the Class AAAA title game.
The Trojans defeated the Panthers 26-24, 25-12 and 25-23. The Trojans also won state in 2019 and 2021 and were undefeated in the 2020 season but there was no state tournament because of the pandemic.
Wayzata (30-4) won 30 games for the second straight year. The 2021 Trojans finished 34-0.
Olivia Swenson led the Trojans in the title match with 14 kills. Avery Jesewitz hit .348 and added 10 kills while Kaitlyn Vogt had nine.
Stella Swenson recorded 35 set assists with Jesewitz and Sophia Johnson leading with 17 digs apiece.
Three Lakeville North players finished with eight or more kills. The Panthers finished the season with a 29-5 record.
