Wayzata Girls Volleyball Falls to Rogers in Five Sets
The Wayzata girls volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to Rogers, falling in five sets in the Section 5AAAA semifinals Tuesday night.
The Royals prevailed 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 26-24, 16-14 in an epic battle.
After losing a close first set, third seed Wayzata won the second and third sets and had a match point opportunity late in the fourth set with a 24-23 lead.
Rogers fought back from what was a five-point deficit to pull out a thriller in the fourth 26-24.
The fifth set followed a similar pattern, with Wayzata building a five-point lead as late as 11-6.
Once again Rogers rallied and clawed back to pass the Trojans and secure the win.
Second seed Rogers now faces fourth seed Champlin Park in the section final Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Osseo High School in a match you can see live on CCX 1 channels 799/12 on Comcast.
Wayzata wraps up the season with a 17-13 record.
