Wayzata Volleyball Loses Season Opener to Rogers

The Wayzata volleyball team lost for the first time since October 2022, falling to Rogers three sets to one in the season-opening match for both teams.

The Trojans- unbeaten last season and the four-time defending state champions- won the first set 25-23 after falling behind 22-14.

But the Royals, ranked fifth in the state in the coaches’ pre-season poll, rallied to win the second set 25-18 and then took the third and fourth sets 25-15 and 25-12.

Wayzata is ranked eighth in Class 4A and will host Edina in their Lake Conference opener on Tuesday.

Rogers plays its home opener Tuesday against Monticello.
