Wayzata Volleyball Captures State Championship
The Wayzata volleyball team capped a perfect season Saturday with a four-set win over East Ridge to win the state Class 4A championship.
The Trojans finished the season with a 34-0 record to repeat as big school champions. There was no state tournament in 2020 because of the pandemic making the Trojans back-to-back state champions among the big schools having defeated Eagan in the 2019 final.
Avery Jesewitz led a balanced Wayzata attack in the final with 14 kills. Sierra Moore and Katy Riviere added 13 each while Emma Goerger finished with 11 kills and three blocks.
Goerger, Riviere, Stella Swenson and Ella Voegele were all named to the all-tournament team.
East Ridge, making its first-ever appearance in the state final, ended the season with a 20-10 record.
Wayzata has now won 54 straight matches, dating back to October 2019.
