Wayzata, Hopkins Nordic Ski Teams Advance to State
The Wayzata and Hopkins boys and girls Nordic ski teams finished first and second respectively in the Section 6 meet Monday, advancing both teams to next week’s state meet.
Defending state boys champion Logan Drevlow won the two-race pursuit format event with a combined time of 24 minutes, 51 seconds.
Hudson McMillan of Wayzata placed second in 26:09 with Bridger Nelson of Hopkins third and Wayzata’s Charlie Gundale fourth.
Josh Frett of Breck claimed one of four individual state qualifying spots with his fifth place finish. Armstrong’s Anders Decker placed sixth to also make state.
In the girls meet Lila Golomb of Wayzata won in 29:30, nearly two minutes ahead of her teammate Claire Britton.
Daphne Grobstein of Hopkins finished third with Wayzata’s Meredith Gundale placing fourth.
Breck’s Esme Gulbransen finished fifth to earn a spot at the state meet.
Wayzata’s James Caine and Connor Viera won the boys Sprint Team Relay while Megan Mitchell and Isabelle Mayer of Hopkins placed first in the girls Sprint Team Relay.
The state Nordic meet is February 12-13 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
