State Class AAA Track and Field Highlights
Athletes from the northwest suburbs turned in several strong performances Saturday at the state class AAA track and field finals at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
The Wayzata boys and girls teams each placed second in the team standings, with the Trojans’ boys finishing one point behind champion Rosemount.
Champlin Park’s girls tied for 12th place. The Osseo and Hopkins boys tied for 15th place.
Hopkins runners swept the 800 meter races, with Sydney Drevlow taking the girls title and Henry Risser winning the boys 800.
Wayzata’s girls 4 x 800 relay accomplished a rare feat, winning the race despite running from the slower of two heats.
Wheelchair athletes Michael Allen and Macalister Hedtke of Wayzata won multiple events, with Allen taking the 100, 800, and 1600 meter races and Hedtke winning the 200, 400 and discus.
Champlin Park had two girls relays place in the top three, taking second in the 4 x 100 and third in the 4 x 200.
Linton McPherson of Osseo was second in the boys 110 hurdles.
Madelyn Gullickson of Wayzata placed second in the 1600 meters. Hayes McMillan of the Trojans was second in the boys 800.
