Park Center Boys Basketball Edges Totino-Grace to Stay Unbeaten
The Park Center boys basketball passed a tough test Thursday, edging Totino-Grace 68-65 to stay unbeaten.
The game matched the top-ranked teams in class AAAA (Park Center) and class AAA (Totino-Grace).
Both are defending state champions in their classes, too.
Park Center built a 29-22 halftime lead after a first half that saw the offenses struggle to get going.
The second half was a classic back and forth battle, with the lead changing hands several times.
With Park Center up 68-65 late, the Eagles rebounded their own missed free throw and had a chance to tie but couldn’t get a three-pointer to drop.
Casmir Chavis was outstanding for the Pirates, especially in the second half. He scored 27 in all to lead all scorers.
JJ Ware (12) and Jackson Fowlkes (10) also reached double figures for Park Center.
Taison Chatman had 22 to lead TG; Patrick Bath added 18 and Isaiah Johnson 13 for the Eagles.
The win gives Park Center a season sweep of Totino-Grace. The Pirates are now 19-0, while the Eagles dropped to 13-6.
