Orono Boys Basketball Tops Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Buzzer-Beater
Nolan Groves’ half-court shot as time expired gave the Orono boys basketball team an 86-84 win over Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the Section 6AAA championship game.
Groves’ shot was the third of three late-game buzzer-beaters in the game.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s Jaleel Donley banked in a three-pointer at the end of regulation to tie the score at 70, sending the game to overtime.
Orono’s Brady Wooley’s lay-in beat the buzzer at the end of the first overtime, tying the game at 73.
Groves scored 45 points, giving him 121 points in Orono’s three section tournament games.
B-SM finishes its season with a 19-10 record.
Orono (19-10) is in the state tournament for the second year in a row and the sixth time since 2010.
