Maple Grove Legion Baseball Loses Sub-State Opener
After Wednesday’s heavy rains wiped games out, sunshine greeted teams in the Sub-State 10 American Legion baseball tournament Thursday.
Third seed Maple Grove lost 5-1 to sixth seed Elk River in a first-round game played at Gleason Fields in Maple Grove.
Elk River scored twice in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead, with Lincoln Trushenski knocking in all four runs.
Elks starter Bennett Masey threw four scoreless innings.
Maple Grove scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 4-1 before Elk River added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Osseo’s Memorial Field is the main site for the tournament, which runs through Sunday.
