Maple Grove Legion Baseball Edges Anoka in Extra Innings
The Maple Grove American Legion baseball team pulled out a thriller Friday, edging Anoka 4-3 in eight innings in the Sub-State 11 tournament.
Chayton Fischer’s double scored Aiden McMahon with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The game was tied 2-2 entering the seventh, when Anoka’s Jacob Deutschman led off with a triple and Hayden Torgerson singled past a five-man infield to drive him in to make it 3-2 Anoka. They were unable to add to the lead.
Maple Grove put runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Brian O’Dwyer’s squeez bunt scored the tying run, but they too missed out on a chance to score more.
That just set up Fischer’s heroics in the eighth.
Maple Grove is now 2-0 in the tournament and advances to the winner’s bracket final Saturday morning at 9:00.
Game times were moved up an hour Saturday because of expected storms.
