Maple Grove Hockey Stars Hoping to be Picked in NHL Draft
The Osseo-Maple Grove boys youth hockey program and the Maple Grove High School team has produced some great talent lately.
A few Crimson standouts hope to hear their names called in this week’s NHL draft.
2021 Maple Grove graduate Kyle Kukkonen is ranked 78th among North American skaters by Central Scouting.
Kukkonen was named Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year in boys hockey for the 2021 season.
Kukkonen has committed to play college hockey at Michigan Tech.
His teammate Henry Nelson, a strong skating defenseman, is rated 96th among North American skaters.
He is committed to Notre Dame.
Former Maple Grove star Justin Janicke is rated 128th.
He left high school hockey to play in the U.S. Development Program and is also headed to Notre Dame.
Crimson defenseman Cal Thomas is also a possible draftee.
The NHL draft is Friday and Saturday and will be held virtually again this year due to the pandemic.
Round 1 is Friday and rounds 2-7 Saturday.
