Maple Grove Girls Lacrosse Rallies Past Champlin Park in Key Game
In a game for the top spot in the Northwest Suburban Conference, the Maple Grove girls lacrosse team rallied from a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to edge Champlin Park 9-8.
Champlin Park had the lead for most of the night, leading 2-1 after one quarter and 4-3 at halftime.
After Maple Grove closed within 6-5, the Rebels scored twice in the last minute of the third quarter to go up 8-5 through three quarters.
Maple Grove came on strong in the fourth, with Hadley Kudla scoring two straight to pull the Crimson within 8-7.
Ava Kennedy worked through the defense to tie the game 8-8 with one minute left, and Ryley Dunn scored the game winner with 25 seconds left.
Champlin Park standout Reese Hagenbart, who scored four goals, won the faceoff after Dunn’s goal and charged to the net, only to see her shot glance off the crossbar late in the contest.
In addition to Hagenbart’s four goals, Alayna Roehl and Miley Jiracek each scored twice for Champlin Park. Goalie Paige Hagenbart had 14 saves, several of them spectacular stops.
Dunn had three goals for Maple Grove, with Kennedy and Kudla adding two each.
Maple Grove improved to 7-0 in NWSC games with game against Andover Thursday night remaining. Champlin Park is 7-1 in conference play.
