Maple Grove Boys Win Section 5 Nordic Title
The Maple Grove boys Nordic ski team won the Section 5 championship Wednesday, earning a spot in next week’s state meet.
The Crimson’s Myles Brown was the team’s top finisher, placing second overall behind Blaine’s Ben Lewis.
Parker Koland, Matthew Broderson, Kirk Carlson, Isaac Mikkola, Joe Ream and Evan Lovdahl make up the rest of the Maple Grove section-winning team.
Osseo’s Nicholas Trzynka finished third in the meet and his teammate Vaughn Ruska placed fifth as both skiers qualify for state as individuals.
The Rogers boys finished second to also make state.
In the girls’ meet Elk River/Zimmerman and Mora are the team state qualifiers.
Maple Grove finished third. Crimson skiers Lindsey Young, who finished second behind ER-Z’s Hailee Zimpel in the meet, qualifies for state along with teammates Kalli Smith and Savannah Krull.
The state Nordic ski meet for the girls is March 11th at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik. The boys’ meet is March 12th also at Giant’s Ridge.
