Maple Grove Boys Golf Team Wins State
The Maple Grove boys golf team won its second state championship in four seasons by rallying to win the 2021 Class AAA tournament Wednesday.
The top-ranked Crimson trailed Edina by three strokes after the first round but blistered the Bunker Hills course over the final 18 holes with a combined five-under par score of 283.
That gave Maple Grove a two-day total of 584, 16 shots better than runner-up Edina.
Crimson senior Josh Galvin shot back-to-back rounds of 70 to tie for fourth place. Ryan Stendahl shot a second round score of 69 and tied for 17th place.
The title is the second for Maple Grove, having also won in 2018.
Nate Stevens of Northfield shot rounds of 68 and 66 to win medalist honors.
In the Class 2A tournament, Totino-Grace finished as runner-up to Cloquet. The Eagles’ Andrew Ramos tied for sixth place.
