Maple Grove Baseball Edges Osseo 1-0
The Maple Grove baseball team edged rival Osseo 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel Monday.
It was the season opener for the Crimson, and first game as head coach for Jeff Peterson of the Crimson.
Peterson replaced Darby Carlson, who retired after guiding Maple Grove from the school’s opening in 1996-97 through last spring.
Maple Grove starting pitcher Cole Newell struck out 12 batters in 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the win.
Reliever Ethan Zimmermann added another three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings to earn the save.
Sam Wolkerstorfer of Osseo was superb as well, allowing just one hit in six innings.
The lone run scored on a bases loaded groundout by Zane Vitense of Maple Grove in the first inning.
