Maple Grove Baseball Edges Edina in Three Hour Rain Game
Nathan Schmidt came up clutch for the Maple Grove baseball team in the bottom of the seventh, hitting a walk-off, 2-run single to right field to give the Crimson a 10-9 win over Edina in a game that lasted three hours in off-and-on rain.
The heroics from Schmidt were part of a big performance from the senior that included six RBI’s on a 4-for-5 outing at the plate, including a two-run home run in the fourth.
The Crimson and Hornets went back-and-forth for most of the game, but Edina took a 9-8 lead in the top of the seventh.
Dylan Vokal led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, which was followed by back-to-back successful bunt hits by Brody Berglin and Beckett Shimpa.
With the bases loaded, Schmidt delivered to give the Crimson the 10-9 win.
