Hopkins Softball Shuts Out Armstrong to Reach Section 6AAAA Final
The Hopkins softball team played like a top seed, beating third seed Armstrong 3-0 in the winner’s bracket final of the Section 6AAAA tournament.
Susan Sherman drove in a run in the second inning to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
An inning later, Abi Carter and Violet Dupree-Hebert delivered run-scoring hits to stretch the lead to 3-0.
That was plenty for pitcher Signe Dohse, who held the Falcons in check most of the way.
Armstrong’s best threat came in the top of the seventh but Dohse induced a comebacker with runners at second and third to end the game.
Armstrong now meets Wayzata in an elimination game Wednesday afternoon, with the winner meeting Hopkins in the final.
Hopkins needs one win to take the section title; the Wayzata-Armstrong winner would need to beat the Royals twice to advance to state.
