Gopher Classic Legion Baseball Tournament Starts Friday
The nation’s largest American Legion baseball tournament gets underway Friday with the return of the 96-team Gopher Classic.
Local teams competing in this year’s tourney are Hopkins, Maple Grove, Osseo, and Wayzata.
The teams are split into 16 six-team pods at sites around the greater metro area.
Each team plays five games in their respective pools with the 16 site winners advancing to the tournament’s championship round games next Monday and Tuesday.
Hopkins and Maple Grove are both pool-site hosts with Osseo playing at Eden Prairie and Wayzata playing in Victoria.
The field includes teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Wyoming and Ontario.
