Local Nordic Skiers Advance to State
The Champlin Park boys Nordic ski team advanced to the state meet for a second straight season, finishing as team runner-up at the Section 5 championships Thursday.
On an unseasonably warm afternoon at Wirth Park in Golden Valley, Rebels’ senior Tyler Kyes finished third overall in the meet while his teammate Ethan Ibarra placed seventh to lead the Rebels.
Champlin Park finished second to Blaine in the meet.
In the girls’ championship Elk River/Zimmerman and Irondale advanced to state as the top two teams.
Maple Grove’s Savannah Krull (3rd place) and Champlin Park’s Abby Hibbs (9th ) both qualified for state as individuals.
The state Nordic meet is February 15-16 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
