Champlin Park Boys Basketball Beats Park Center in Overtime for Section Title
After two close regular season games, it was no surprise that Champlin Park and Park Center played a tight Section 5AAAA championship game.
Top-ranked Champlin Park beat Park Center for a third time this season, winning 69-63 in an overtime thriller.
Visiting Park Center had a fast start, jumping out to leads of 7-0 and 14-5 in the early going.
Champlin Park closed the first half well, gaining a 36-27 halftime lead on the strength of 20 points from Joshua Strong.
They built the lead to 16 points early in the second half before Park Center closed the gap.
Things still looked bleak for Park Center when they trailed by five with ten seconds to play.
Jalen Cook hit a three pointer to bring PC within two, and after missed free throws by the Rebels, Braeden Carrington drove and was fouled.
Carrington hit two free throws with two seconds left to send the game to overtime.
Park Center didn’t score in OT though, and Champlin Park made six free throws to secure the win and stay unbeaten.
