Brooklyn Center Volunteer Coach Amina Smaller Honored With Heart and Sole Award
A big award has come the way of a local volunteer coach. Amina Smaller works with Brooklyn Center Middle School girls and has been awarded the Heart and Sole Award by the Girls on the Run organization.
Amina is in her third year of working with middle school girls through the GOTR program, which fosters leadership, healthy habits and teaches emotional and social skills.
The eight-week program meets twice a week in the spring and began, culminating with a 5K run for the girls.
Smaller is the only middle school coach in the state to receive the Heart and Sole award this year from the Minnesota branch of Girls on the Run.
Amina is the Community Schools Site Coordinator and Youth Development Leader in the Brooklyn Center School District.
