Benilde-St. Margaret’s Girls Lacrosse Earns State Final Berth
Lauren Hillins scored with 10 seconds left in the game giving the Benilde-St. Margaret’s girls’ lacrosse team a 14-13 win over Lakeville South in the state tournament semifinals.
The Red Knights (16-2) were seeded fifth for the state tournament while the previously Cougars (17-1) were the top seed. B-SM lost to South 16-9 during the regular season.
On Thursday the Red Knights took a 6-2 first half lead before the Cougars rallied to tie at halftime.
The teams traded goals and leads in the second half before Maddie Kaltsas scored for B-SM with 1:18 to play, tying the game at 13-13 setting up the late-game heroics from Hillins.
Charlize Vang scored five goals and Julia Evens three for the Red Knights.
Katie Grubbs led South with four goals.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s faces Edina for the state championship Saturday afternoon at Stillwater Area High School.
