Benilde-St. Margaret’s Girls Basketball Pulls Away in Second Half of State Quarterfinal
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s girls basketball team dominated the second half to pull away for a 75-40 win over Minneapolis Roosevelt in the state class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday morning.
The Teddies, making their first-ever appearance in the state tournament, stayed with top seed and defending champion Benilde in the first half, trailing just 33-27 at halftime.
The second half was a completely different story as BSM switched to a zone defense and held Roosevelt scoreless for a decisive stretch early in the half.
Michigan recruit Olivia Olson of Benilde showed why she is one of Minnesota’s top players, with 35 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Zahara Bishop had 18 points for the Red Knights.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s meets Stewartville in the semifinals Thursday at noon at Williams Arena.
