Armstrong Football Pulls Away to Beat Cooper in Section Final
The Armstrong football team outscored Robbinsdale district rival Cooper 28-0 in the second half on the way to a 49-14 win in the Section 5AAAAA championship game Friday.
After Armstrong took a 21-7 lead, Cooper’s Emmanuel Karmo scored his second touchdown of the night on the final play of the first half to pull the Hawks within 21-14.
Armstrong’s Kevon Johnson broke a 56-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter, and it was the start of a dominant second half for the Falcons.
Johnson finished with 235 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Gideon Breker had two touchdown catches and an interception defensively for the Falcons.
Armstrong (8-2) now meets Andover in the state quarterfinals Saturday at noon at Osseo High School.
They lost t the Huskies 42-7 in the last regular season game, a game that Johnson missed due to injury.
