Armstrong Football Pulls Away to Beat Cooper For Section Title
After blitzing rival Cooper early in their regular season meeting on the way to a 63-7 win, the Armstrong football team got a tougher test in the rematch with the Hawks in the Section 5AAAAA championship game.
In the end, the outcome was the same. Armstrong dominated the second half on the way to a 42-7 win over Cooper to advance to the state playoffs.
Cooper scored first in the section final on a short TD pass from Kameron Fox to Jaxon Howard.
Armstrong tied the score late in the first quarter on a 51-yard pass from Jamen Malone to Marquan Tucker, and the game remained tied 7-7 at halftime.
The Falcons controlled the second half, scoring twice in the third quarter and three more times in the fourth to get the win.
Reggie Carter rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns for Armstrong.
Tucker had five receptions for 155 yards and two TD’s.
Malone threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another.
Armstrong is now 8-2.
They are in the state playoffs for the fifth time and first time since 2003.
The Falcons meet Section 6AAAAA champion Rogers in the class AAAAA quarterfinals Saturday at noon at Osseo High School.
