Armstrong Baseball Beats Elk River With Grand Slam
The Armstrong baseball team beat Elk River in dramatic fashion Friday, with Dayton Franke’s grand slam in the bottom of the seventh winning it.
Franke had apparently been hit by a pitch earlier in the at-bat, but the umpire ruled he had leaned into the pitch and brought him back to the plate.
Armstrong scored three runs in the bottom of the first to grab a 3-1 lead.
Bryce Campbell tripled in Franke and circled the bases himself when the Elks misplayed the ball.
Elk River came back with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to grab a 6-3 lead.
The Biggest blow was a two-run homer by Ryan Weatherly.
Armstrong trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the seventh but Franke’s big drive made for a happy ending for the Falcons.
