Three Charged After Gun Battle at Oak Grove Park
Three men are facing felony dangerous weapon charges after an alleged Sunday evening gun battle in Brooklyn Park’s Oak Grove Park.
It comes after police said they recovered evidence of more than 70 gunshots being fired in the park just before 8 p.m. on May 24.
The following men were charged in connection with the incident: 18-year-old Kevin Morris of Brooklyn Park, 23-year-old Beyan Kanneh of Brooklyn Park and 23-year-old Alvin Gee of Blaine.
According to the criminal complaints, 911 callers reported hearing 30 to 50 gunshots fired at Oak Grove Park, located at 10251 Zane Ave. N. at about 7:50 p.m.
Arriving officers began investigating and located 74 discharged cartridge casings in several areas of the park.
Multiple cars in the parking lot were struck by the gunfire, police said.
Investigators believed that two opposing groups had fired shots at each other during the incident.
A family was having a picnic at the park at the time of the shooting and reported seeing three of the shooters walk into the woods. The suspects then approached the family and asked if they were okay before appearing to adjust guns in their waistbands and walking onto the Rush Creek Trail System, the charges revealed.
Police detained three men on the trail, who were later identified as Morris, Kanneh and Gee.
Kanneh allegedly had a Smith and Wesson 9mm in his waistband and two magazines that were partly filled with ammunition. Gee, who has a permit to carry a handgun, was allegedly in possession of two Glocks. Both had extended magazines, with one empty and the other containing 21 rounds, plus one in the chamber.
All three men have upcoming court appearances in late June.
