The Wine Thief & Ale Jail Opens in Crystal
Wine and beer aficionados now have a new place to go in Crystal.
Crystal city officials celebrated the grand opening of The Wine Thief & Ale Jail Friday morning.
The new shop occupies the space of a former Pizza Hut at 36th Avenue and Douglas Drive, which closed in 2020 and has been vacant ever since.
The husband and wife ownership team bought the property, increased the building’s size by 50 percent, and stocked it with a wide selection of wine, beer and spirits from all over the world.
“Coming over here felt like a big step but, you know, we’re excited to be part of the community,” said co-owner Mejken Thompson. “We’ve loved meeting the neighbors on this corner and we’re happy to be here.”
The owners received a grant from the city and Hennepin County to make improvements to the building.
Meanwhile, the shop plans to host a number of tasting events to introduce customers to their products.
The Wine Thief & Ale Jail also has another location in St. Paul.
